Anthony Mackie, currently appearing on Broadway in A Behanding in Spokane, will join the previously announced star Hugh Jackman in DreamWorks’ upcoming science fiction film Real Steel, according to a report in Variety. Shawn Levy will direct the movie, which is based on a short story by Richard Matheson.
The film centers on a former boxer (Jackman) who teams up with his son to train a robot for a championship fight. Mackie will play a boxing promoter, and the cast will also feature Lost star Evangeline Lilly as a friend of Jackman’s character.
Mackie has also appeared on Broadway in Drowning Crow and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, while his Off-Broadway credits include The Bacchae and McReele. His film credits include The Hurt Locker.
