The newest teaser hints at an immersive production opening soon…
Earlier this month, a man dressed as the Phantom of the Opera showed up at the Tony Awards and then a teaser for a new NYC production was sent out.
Now, another note has been sent to members of the press signed “your obedient servant, O.G.” (opera ghost).
The note reads, “I have need for certain messages to be disseminated concerning my grand Masquerade, an elaborate presentation that continues the story of my legend following my untimely and unwise eviction from The Majestic Theater.” This refers to the closing of the original Broadway production in 2023, after 35 years at the Majestic Theater.
The note continues, “You are strongly advised to sign my ledger by the 30th of June. This will ensure you will be granted access to my production during the six weeks I have elected to present it to a very fortunate few,” hinting at a limited, six-week run.
Finally, the note includes instructions for dress, which indicates this will be an immersive production in which audience members will wear masks and need to move around the theater: “You must dress in black, white or silver or a combination of these colours. You must at all times conceal your face. A masquerade mask in black, white, or silver is required. Bring your own or purchase one at the door. Finally, a word of advice. Do not wear high heels. Whilst in certain circumstances these can be appropriate, they could be treacherous as you tread the secret catacombs and dark crannies that I have prepared for you.”
More details will be announced on June 30, when tickets are expected to go on sale.
