The National Board of Reviews has announced its 2009 Awards.
Up In the Air was the most honored movie, with awards for Best Film, Best Actor for George Clooney, Best Supporting Actress for Anna Kendrick, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner.
Clooney shared the Best Actor award with Broadway veteran Morgan Freeman for his work as Nelson Mandela in Invictus, which was named one of the 10 Best Films of the Year and also earned the Best Director award for Clint Eastwood.
Other theater actors who received awards include Carey Mulligan, named Best Actress for An Education, Woody Harrelson, named Best Supporting Actor for The Messenger, and Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin, the stars of It’s Complicated, which was named Best Ensemble Cast.
Joel and Ethan Coen won the Best Original Screenplay for A Serious Man, which was named one of the 10 Best Films of the year. Also making the list were An Education, (500) Days of Summer, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, The Messenger, Star Trek, Up, and Where the Wild Things Are.
