Playwrights Gretchen Cryer, David Rambo, and Jean-Claude van Itallie have agreed to mentor three emerging playwrights as part of Cherry Lane Theatre’s 2012 Mentor Program.

Patricia Buckley, author of Evolution will be mentored by van Itallie. Anne DeSalvo, author of Mamma Roma, will be mentored by Rambo. And Elizabeth Rose, whose play is entitle Relative Pitch, will be mentored by Cryer.

The project’s first commissioned play — Lisa Ramirez’s Pas de Deux (Lost My Shoe) — will also premiere this season, under the mentorship of Cynthia Hopkins. The work will be given two public staged readings.

The Mentor Project pairs leading dramatists with emerging writers for a full season of script development, casting, rehearsals, and a showcase production.
