Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to star in a new film version of Erich Maria Remarque’s classic novel All Quiet on the Western Front, according to Variety.
The film, which will be produced and written by Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson, will begin shooting in 2012. Radcliffe will play the lead role of Paul Baumer, a young German soldier fighting in the trenches of France during World War I.
Radcliffe will star as J. Pierrepont Finch in the upcoming Broadway revival of the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He made his Broadway debut in 2008 as Alan Strang in Equus, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination as Best Actor.
He is best known for playing the title role in the popular Harry Potterseries of films; the final two episodes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in 2010 and 2011.
