Bernadette Peters
Bernadette Peters, the star of the current Broadway revival of Gypsy, missed performances of the show on Monday and Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon this week due to illness, nor will she perform on Wednesday evening, April 23. The production is set to open on Thursday, May 1.

According to the show's publicist, Peters -- who won Tonys for her performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1985 Song and Dance and the 1999 revival of Annie Get Your Gun, and who has also appeared on Broadway in George M!, La Strada, On the Town, Mack and Mabel, Sunday in the Park With George, Into the Woods, and The Goodbye Girl -- is suffering from a bad cold and is missing performances on the advice of her doctor. She is expected to return to the show on Thursday, April 24.

During Peters's absence, the role of the domineering stage mother Rose is being performed by her standby, Maureen Moore, who was also Peters's standby in Song and Dance and who played June in the 1974 Broadway revival of Gypsy that starred Angela Lansbury. Moore's Broadway credits also include Cabaret, Sunset Boulevard, Falsettos, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, and Les Misérables.
