Plays by Mike Bartlett, David Eldrige, Joe Penhall, et al. Set for Royal Court Theatre in 2012

Royal Court Theatre has announced the plays it will produce during the first half of 2012.

As previously reported, Dominic Cooke will direct David Eldridge’s In Basildon (February 16 – March 24), in the company’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs. The company for this play about a family congregating as one of its members dies will feature Linda Bassett, Debbie Chazen, Christian Dixon, Lee Ross, Ruth Sheen and Jade Williams. The creative team will include production designer Ian MacNeil, costume designer Nicky Gillibrand, lighting designer Guy Hoare, and sound designer Paul Arditti.

Other productions scheduled for the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs are Mike Barltett’s look at the baby boomer generation as it approaches retirement, Love Love Love (April 27 – June 2), to be directed by James Grieve; and Joe Penhall’s Birthday (June 22 – August 4), which centers on a couple expecting their second child.

The productions slated for the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs are Nick Payne’s Constellations (January 13 – February 11), to be directed by Michael Longhurst; Bola Agbaje’s Belong (April 26 – May 26), to be directed by Indhu Rubasingham; and Vivienne Franzmann’s The Witness (June 1 – June 30) to be directed by Simon Godwin.

In addition, the theater will host its annual Young Writers Festival, running February 23 – April 14. The event will be comprised of two works receiving full productions, Luke Norris’ Goodbye to All That (February 23 – March 17), to be directed by Simon Godwin; and Hayley Squires’ Vera Vera Vera (March 22 – April 14), to be directed by Jo McInnes; as well as readings of new plays and special events.
