Casting has been announced for Tod Machover and Robert Pinsky's Death and the Powers: The Robots' Opera, to run March 18-25 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre. Diane Paulus will direct the production, which will have choreography by Karole Armitage and be conducted by Gil Rose. After the piece's Boston engagement, it will be seen at Chicago's Harris Theatre, running April 2-10.

The opera, which has a story by Pinsky and Randy Weiner, centers on how, after an eccentric man named Simon downloads himself into The System, his entire house comes to life around his family and friends. The company will feature James Maddalena (Simon), Emily Albrink (Evvy), Sara Heaton (Miranda), Hal Cazalet (Nicholas), Doug Dodson (The United Way), David Kravitz (The United Nations), and Tom McNichols (The Administration).

The creative team will include Alex McDowell (production design) as well as MIT Media Lab, which has been charged with creating the new performance technologies, which will include a new technique of Disembodied Performance to translate Simon's offstage performance into one onstage, as well as a musical chandelier and a chorus of robots.
