Peter Darling, Kate Hennig, Tony Sheldon, Rufus Wainwright, et al. Win Dora Awards

The 2011 Dora Mavor Moore Award winners have been announced.

Among the honorees are Tony Sheldon, who won the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Principal Role for his work in Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical, and Tim Chappel & Lizzy Gardiner, who won for their costume designs for the show. Kate Hennig won Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Principal Role, for her performance in Billy Elliot the Musical, which also earned an award for choreographer Peter Darling.

Among the other winners in musical and opera categories are Rufus Wainwright, whose Prima Donna, was named Best New Musical / Opera; and Alan Oke, who received the Dora for Outstanding Performance in the awards' Opera Division for his work in Death in Venice.

In awards to non-musicals, Buddies In Bad Times Theatre's production of Sarah Kane's Blasted, was named Outstanding Production in the awards' general theatre production division. In addition, the show's director, Brendan Healy, lighting designer, Kimberly Purtrell, and sound designer, Richard Feren, received awards for the show.

Other Dora Award winners include Gavin Crawford, Sandy Duarte, Yanna McIntosh, Christopher Stanton, and Joseph Ziegler.
