Kathleen Chalfant, Richard Easton to Star in Painting Churches Off-Broadway

Kathleen Chalfant and Richard Easton will star in Tina Howe’s Painting Churches, which will begin performances at the Clurman Theatre on February 14, in anticipation of an official opening on March 5. Carl Forsman will direct the Keen Company production.

Chalfant received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, and won Outer Critics, Drama Desk, Obie and Lucille Lortel awards for her work in Wit. In addition, she won a second Obie Award for her performance in Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads.

Easton won a Tony Award for his performance in The Invention of Love. Among his many stage credits are Elling, The Rivals, Henry IV, Noises Off, and The Cherry Orchard on Broadway and Entertaining Mr. Sloane, Bach at Leipzig, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme and Waste, Off-Broadway.

Painting Churches centers on Fanny (Chalfant) and Gardner (Easton) Church, who are about to move to a beach home on Cape Cod, and their daughter Margaret, an artist who lives in New York, who has arrived to help them pack and paint their portrait. Additional casting and creative team will be announced in the near future.
