Bette Midler, Tom Jones, Harvey Schmidt Set for Songwriters Hall of Fame Honors

Stage and screen star Bette Midler will be honored with the Sammy Cahn Award at the star-studded Songwriters Hall of Fame gala on June 14 at the Marriott Marquis in New York.


Theater veterans Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, Jim Steinman, Bob Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, and Don Schlitz will be inducted into the Hall of the Fame that evening.


Midler has appeared numerous times on Broadway, including Fiddler on the Roof. Her films include The Rose, for which she received an Oscar nomination, Beaches, Ruthless People, and The First Wives Club. She also starred in the television movie version of the musical Gypsy.

Jones and Schmidt are best known for their collaboration on The Fantasticks, I Do! I Do!, and 110 in the Shade. Their many other musicals include Celebration, Roadside, Colette, and Philemon.


Steinman wrote the book, music, and lyrics to Broadway’s Dance of the Vampires and contributed material to the Broadway musical Footlose, for which he received a Tony Award nomination. He is best known for composing Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell CDs.
