Television and stage stars Linda Purl and Bruce Weitz will star in the Rubicon Theatre's production of The Diary of Anne Frank, featuring a new adaptation by playwright Wendy Kessleman, March 8-April 1. The production, which will be directed by James O'Neil, will open officially on March 10.

The show, based on Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, tells the true story of a group of Jewish citizens who attempt to hide from the Nazis in an attic during World War II.

In addition to Purl, who will play Mrs. Van Daan, and Weitz, who will play Otto Frank, the cast includes Lauren Patten as Anne and Karyl Lyn Burns as Mrs. Frank. Additional casting will be announced shortly. The creative team includes Thomas Giamario (sets and lighting), Alex Jaeger (costumes), and Thomas J. Valentino, Inc. (sound).

Purl's many stage credits include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Getting and Spending, The Baby Dance, Dinner with Friends, and The Road to Mecca. Her numerous film and television credits include Mighty Joe Young, Matlock, and Happy Days.

Weitz's stage credits include Death of a Salesman, The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, Thieves, and Art. He won the Emmy Award for his portrayal of Mick Belker on the TV series Hill Street Blues, and was also nominated for the miniseries Baby M and the series Midnight Caller.
