Chita Rivera to Perform Second Benefit Show at Birdland

Two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera will perform a special concert Chita Loves Broadway Cares, a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, at both 7pm and 10pm on Monday, January 14. The shows are part of the Broadway at Birdland series, sponsored by Jim Caruso’s Cast Party in association with TheaterMania.com.

In the show, Rivera will perform songs from some of her many stage appearances, including West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Chicago, and The Rink. She will be accompanied by Carmel Dean (piano), Michael Croiter (drums), and Jim Donica (bass).

Rivera won her Tony Awards for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Her many other Broadway shows also include Bye Bye Birdie, Bajour, Merlin, Bring Back Birdie, Nine, and her autobiographical musical Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life. In 2008, she will star in the Signature Theatre production of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s The Visit.

Other upcoming Broadway at Birdland shows include Scott Alan and guests (January 7), Amanda Green (January 28), Jason Danieley (February 4), Capathia Jenkins and Louis Rosen (February 11), Billy Stritch (February 18), and Victoria Shaw (February 25).
