Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre has announced full casting for the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith’s Horsedreams, to run November 9-December 11, with an opening on November 17. Gordon Edelstein will direct.

The play explores the breakdown of the family unit as a result of addiction. After his wife, Desiree, dies of an accidental overdose, Loman faces the harsh reality of raising their son, Luka, alone.

In addition to Orlandersmith, who will play the role of Mira, the cast will include Roxanna Hope (Desiree), Michael Laurence (Loman), and Matthew Schechter (Luka).

The creative team will include Takeshi Kata (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume design), Marcus Doshi (lighting design), and Ryan Rumery (sound design).

Orlandersmith recently received the William Inge award for this play. She was a 2002 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Yellowman, for which she was also nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress and Best Play. She won an Obie for Beauty’s Daughter, with other works including Stoop Stories, Bones, The Gimmick, Monster, Liar, Liar, and the forthcoming solo play, Black n Blue Boys/Broken Men.
