Obie-winning arts organization HERE has announced plans for its 2013-2014 season, which will kick off with Kristin Marting and David Evans Morris' site-specific interactive theater work Trade Practices. Running October 16-November 2, Trade Practices examines the notion of "value" against the backdrop of the booms and busts of the past decade.
HERE's unique season will continue in the early winter months with Joe Diebes' live sound and visual installation Botch (November 13-23), a virtuosic ensemble of vocalists who scramble one another's words and motions according to the logic of corporate "performance optimization. Also featured will be the puppet theater production The Pigeoning (December 4-21). The Pigeoning is a Dream Music Puppetry Production by Robin Frohardt (with additional support provided by The Jim Henson Foundation) that uses bunraku puppetry, video, and original music to explore the ideas of obsessive compulsion, safety, and order.
Keep Your Electric Eye on Me, a multimedia dance performance by Shaun Irons and Lauren Petty, will run in the spring of 2014. This merging of video installation, live dance, and interactive media lab explores transformation, dual realities, hysteria, and the desire for the unattainable. It will be choreographed by Tara O'Con and performed by Madeline Best and Aaron Mattocks.
The season's other offerings will include the Second Annual Festival of Visionary Opera-Theater and Music-Theater Works: PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now as well as HERE's Annual CULTUREMART Festival, both in January. In addition, a spring Dream Music Puppetry Program presentation is to be announced.
HERE produces and presents new, hybrid performances that aim to seamlessly integrate artistic disciplines: theater, dance, music and opera, puppetry, media, visual and installation, spoken word, and performance art.
