A benefit performance entitled An Evening with Marvin Hamlisch will be held to raise funds for the first Castleton Festival. The show will perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, October 10 at 7pm.

The benefit will feature Hamlisch at the piano in an evening of Broadway classics, including some of his own most enduring hits. He will be joined by
Maestro Lorin Maazel who will play Gershwin and conduct the finale. Performers will also include Broadway veteran J. Mark McVey, Soprano Nancy Gustafson, and Castleton Residency Young Artists.

The Castleton Festival, founded by Maazel and his wife, Dietlinde Turban-Maazel, will be an annual music festival on the couple’s 550-acre property in Castleton, Virginia. The first festival — which will feature fully staged operas, concerts, recitals, workshops and informal performance activities — is planned for July 4-19, 2009.
