Cast Set for World Premiere Adaptation of The Kite Runner

Casting has been announced for the world premiere stage adaptation of The Kite Runner, to be presented at San Jose Repertory Theatre, March 21-April 19, with an opening set for March 27. David Ira Goldstein will direct.

Adapted by Matthew Spangler from Khaled Hosseini’s international best-selling novel of the same name, the play tells a haunting story of friendship and redemption in modern Afghanistan, from the pre-Russian-invasion glory days through the horrific reign of the Taliban.

The cast will include Lowell Abellon (Young Hassan), Barzin Akhavan (Amir), Rinabeth Apostol (Soraya), Demosthenes Chrysan (General Taheri), Thamos Fiscelle (Baba), Gregor Paslawsky (Rahim Khan), Craig Piaget (Young Amir), James Saba (Ali), and Adam Yazbeck (Assef). The ensemble will include Zarif Kabier Sadiqi, Wahab Shayek, and Lani Carissa Wong with the cast joined on stage by Tabla player, Salar Nader.

The creative team will includes Vicki Smith (set), Kish Finnegan (costumes), David Lee Cuthbert (lighting), and Scott Edwards (sound).
