Avenue Q Celebrates 13th Year in New York City With Festive Bar Mitzvah

The show also toasted its 3,000th off-Broadway performance at New World Stages.

The long-running musical Avenue Q celebrated its 3,000th off-Broadway performance and 13th anniversary in New York City with a special Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremony for leading characters Princeton and Kate Monster on January 12. The festivities were held at New World Stages and were officiated by journalist Adam Feldman.

Avenue Q, written by Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx, and Jeff Whitty, opened off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre on March 20, 2003, before moving to Broadway's John Golden Theatre, where it officially opened on July 31 of that year. The show went on to win three 2004 Tony Awards: Best Book, Best Score, and Best Musical. The Broadway production closed on September 13, 2009, and reopened off-Broadway at New World Stages on October 21, 2009.


The current Avenue Q company is made up of Ben Durocher (Princeton/Rod), Nick Kohn (Brian), Elizabeth Ann Berg (Kate Monster/Lucy), Jason Jacoby (Nicky/Trekkie Monster), Grace Choi (Christmas Eve), Danielle K. Thomas (Gary Coleman), Kerri Brackin (Mrs. T. and others), Katie Boren, JEd Resnick, Michael Liscio Jr., and Imari Hardon.
