The popular new play begins its run tonight.
Becoming Dr. Ruth starts tonight at Walnut Street Theatre's Independence Studio on 3.
The world famous sex therapist Dr. Ruth began life as Karola Siegel. As a child, Karola was forced to leave her family to flee from the Nazis in the Kindertransport. After the war, with no home to return to, she moved to Jerusalem and joined the Haganah as a scout and sniper. After a marriage and a divorce, the single mother came to America to pursue her dreams. It’s here that she transformed into Ruth Westheimer, the woman who would become an American icon. Humorous and honest, the play presents the story of a spirited girl whose journey ends in an unexpected and singular place.
Jere Lee Hodgin directs Mark St. Germain’s solo play, which stars Jane Ridley as Dr. Ruth.
The creative team includes Andrew Thompson (set design), Julia Poiesz (costume design), Charles S. Reece (lighting design), Zachary Beattie-Brown (sound design), and Angela Cucco (stage manager).
Performances will run through December 27.
