Tim Robbins and Peter Sarsgaard have joined the cast of the Green Lantern movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Martin Campbell is directing the film, which is based on the DC Comics superhero.

Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie’s villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers. Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero’s love interest, Carol Ferris.

Robbins is co-founder of the Los Angeles-based theater company The Actors Gang. Among his credits with the group is Embedded, a play which he wrote and directed. Robbins won an Oscar for his performance in Mystic River and last appeared on screen in City of Ember. Among his many other screen credits are Bob Roberts, The Player, Cadillac Man, Prêt-à-Porter, and Jacob’s Ladder.

Sarsgaard appeared both on and off-Broadway last year in The Seagull and Uncle Vanya. His other stage work includes Burn This and Kingdom of Earth. His many film credits include Shattered Glass, Boys Don’t Cry, Kinsey, Garden State, Jarhead, and The Dying Gaul.
