Summer: The Donna Summer Musical Announces Broadway Transfer

The spring season is about to get some “hot stuff.”

It was announced this morning that Summer: The Donna Summer Musical will transfer to Broadway this spring, opening at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 23, 2018. Preview performances are scheduled to begin March 28 and tickets will go on sale January 8.

The biomusical, running at La Jolla Playhouse through December 24, explores the life of the iconic and controversial singer-songwriter. The show currently features three performers in the title role: Storm Lever as "Duckling Donna," Ariana DeBose as "Disco Donna," and Tony winner LaChanze as "Diva Donna." Broadway casting has not yet been announced.

Summer features a book by Colman Domingo, Robert Cary, and Des McAnuff, with songs by Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Paul Jabara, and others. Des McAnuff directs, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo, music supervision by Ron Melrose, scenic design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley, sound by Gareth Owen, and projections by Sean Nieuwenhuis.

Summer is produced by Tommy Mottola and the Dodgers. Additional production details will be announced shortly.
