Singer Yma Sumac Dies at 86

Peruvian-born singer Yma Sumac, who became legendary for her five octave range, died in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 1 at the age of 86.

In addition to being a popular recording artist for over four decades, Sumac appeared in the 1951 Broadway musical Flahooley, which starred Barbara Cook, and played the role of Heidi in a 1990 production of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies in Long Branch, California.

She is survived by her son, Charles.
