The New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie will officially kick off its 2009 season with Joanna Murray-Smith’s Ninety, starring Sarita Choudhury and Kevin Kilner, to run June 30-July 12. The production will be directed by Maria Mileaf.
The play concerns an art conservator who has exactly 90-minutes to convince her ex-husband, now a famous actor, that their marriage should be saved. Murray-Smith is known for the plays Honour and The Female of The Species.
The season will also include productions and readings of Duncan Sheik and Kyle Powell’s musical Whisper House, Lewis Black’s new play One Slight Hitch, Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller’s musical The Burnt Part Boys, Keith Bunin’s Vera Laughed, Ben Snyder’s Shoe Story, and the musical Tina Girlstar.
In addition, Carol Kane, Mark Linn-Baker, Wendy Makenna, Mary McDonnell, Randle Mell, Rob Morrow, Manu Narayan, Jenny Powers, Reg Rogers, David Strathairn, Duncan Sheik, Jon Tenney, and Jennifer Westfeldt will take part in a special 25th anniversary gala at 7pm on Saturday, June 27. The event, to be directed by Sheryl Kaller, will include selections from such past Powerhouse productions as Savage in Limbo, Snakebit, Side Man, A Year With Frog & Toad, The Dazzle, Adrift in Macao, The Boy Who Heard Music, Largo, Spike Heels, Fault Lines, Dangerous Beauty, and Nero.
