”What’s Inside: Songs From Waitress” is the Grammy nominee’s fifth album.
Before her musical Waitress hits Broadway, Grammy-nominated songwriter Sara Bareilles will release a concept album of her tunes for the show on the Epic Records label. The record, titled What's Inside: Songs From Waitress, will hit shelves in November, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first single, "She Used to Be Mine," will be available for download beginning Friday, September 25.
Based on the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress boasts a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Bareilles, and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus. It is currently playing an out-of-town tryout at the American Repertory Theater in Boston (through September 27), before moving to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016.
Casting for the Broadway mounting will be announced in the future. The A.R.T. production stars Jessie Mueller (Beautiful — The Carole King Musical) as Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must weigh her commitments against a rare shot at freedom and recognition. Also featured in the company are Jeanna de Waal as Dawn, Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Dakin Matthews as Joe, Keala Settle as Becky, Joe Tippett as Earl, Jeremy Morse as Ogie, and Eric Anderson as Cal.
