Performances of Ragtime begin tonight at Trinity Repertory Company.

Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens's Tony-winning musical adaptation of E.L. Doctorow's novel features a book by Terrence McNally and is described as follows: "Ragtime shines a light on all that has and hasn't changed in America since the turn of the 20th century. In the early 1900s, optimism and possibility are as prevalent as burgeoning racial and social volatility. The lives of an upper-class white mother, a Jewish immigrant, and a bold African American musician from Harlem intersect in ways that profoundly affect their families' fates. A passionate, vibrant, Tony Award-winning score heightens the tenderness and tension that will rouse and inspire audiences." Curt Columbus directs.

Ragtime's cast features Alexander De Vasconcelos Matos (Younger Brother), Janice Duclos (Emma Goldman), Mia Ellis
(Sarah), Taavon Gamble (Booker T. Washington), Rebecca Gibel (Evelyn Nesbit), Mauro Hantman (Father), Evan Andrew Horwitz (Boy), Brian McEleney (Grandfather), Olivia Miller (Girl), Fred Sullivan Jr. (J.P. Morgan), Stephen Thorne (Harry Houdini), Charlie Thurston (Tateh), Rachael Warren (Mother), Antonio Michael Woodard (Matthew Henson), and Wilkie Ferguson III (Coalhouse Walker Jr.). Jude Sandy and Carla Martinez are also featured.

The creative team includes Eugene Lee (set design), Kara Harmon (costume design), Dan Scully (lighting design), Peter Sasha Hurowitz (sound design), Michael Rice (music direction), Sharon Jenkins (choreography), Andrew Smithson (choral direction), and Nate Dendy (magic design). Also featured is the work of associate director and foley artist Julia Locascio and assistant set designer Patrick Lynch. Kristen Gibbs is the stage manager.

Performances continue through May 27.
