Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley, who as previously reported will soon take over the starring role of Hannibal Lecter in the Off-Broadway engagement of Silence! The Musical, attended the Saturday, May 19 performance of the production at The 9th Space Theatre at PS 122.
Shuler will fill in for the vacationing David Garrison for four weeks, June 1-24. Following Saturday’s performance, Hensley visited with the cast and posed for some tongue-in-cheek photos.
With a book by Hunter Bell and music and lyrics by Jon and Al Kaplan, this unauthorized parody of the thriller Silence of the Lambs is directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.
The production also stars Jenn Harris (Clarice Starling), and Stephen Bienskie (Buffalo Bill), and features Callan Bergmann, Harry Bouvy, Ashlee Dupré, Annie Funke, Deidre Goodwin, Howard Kaye, Topher Nuccio, Pamela Bob and Doug Trapp. Music Supervisor is Mark Hartman, with orchestrations by Brian J. Nash.
Hensley won Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Olivier Awards for his performance as Jud Fry in Trevor Nunn’s 2002 revival of Oklahoma!, with other Broadway credits including Les Miserables, Young Frankenstein and Tarzan. He is a recent recipient of a 2012 Drama Desk Award as part of the ensemble cast of Sweet and Sad.
