Drilling Company to Present As You Like It at Shakespeare in the Parking Lot

The Drilling Company’s Shakespeare in the Parking Lot (SITPL) production of As You Like It, directed by Hamilton Clancy, runs July 16-August 1 in the parking lot at 145 Stanton Street. This marks the 31st season of SITPL.

To find fresh relevance in Shakespeare’s tale of characters escaping an authoritarian court for a more humane community, this production re-envisions the Forest of Arden as the Lower East Side, where artists, outsiders, and free thinkers have long found refuge from the conventions of the wider world. The production also re-imagines Phoebe and Silvius as older people, suggesting that the exhilaration, confusion, and folly of romance are not reserved for the young.

The cast includes Andy Rowell as Touchstone, Lia Bonfilio as Rosalind, Thammie Laine Guac as Celia, Patrick Hart as Orlando, Emanuel Elpenord as Oliver, Bob Arcaro as Adam, Chris Martel as Duke Senior and Duke Frederick, Carly Grissom as Denise/Audrey, Raphael del Rio as Charles, David Marantz as Jaques, Elowyn Castle as Corinne, Adama Joy Sall as Amiens, Lizabeth Allen as Phoebe, and Dan Teachout as Silvius.

The production features production design by Hamilton Clancy and original music compositions by Adama Joy Sall and Thammie Laine Guac, as well as songs by Natalie Smith and Andrew Gombas that originated in earlier productions.

SITPL is free, and chairs are provided on a first come, first served basis (audience members are welcome to bring their own).
