Ebersole and LuPone head the company of this new Broadway musical.
Ghostlight Records welcomed two-time Tony winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole into the studio to record the original cast album of War Paint. The CD will be released in June.
Inspired by Lindy Woodhead's book War Paint, as well as by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman's PBS documentary The Powder & the Glory, the show examines the ascent and rivalry of cosmetics entrepreneurs Helena Rubenstein (LuPone) and Elizabeth Arden (Ebersole), whose 50-year tug-of-war gave birth to an industry.
The cast also features Tony Award nominees John Dossett as Tommy Lewis (Arden’s husband and chief marketing officer) and Douglas Sills as Harry Fleming (Rubinstein’s clubby confidante and faithful ally).
Directed by Michael Greif and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, War Paint features a book by Doug Wright and score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, the team behind the musical Grey Gardens, in which Ebersole starred.
