Nyong’o makes her New York stage debut in the upcoming Public Theater production of Danai Gurira’s work.
Full casting has been announced for Eclipsed, a new play by Danai Gurira that will star Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave). Directed by Liesl Tommy, the work begins previews September 29 at the Public Theater, with opening night set for October 14. It is currently scheduled to close November 8.
Joining the previously announced Nyong'o are Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh.
Eclipsed is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of the captive wives of a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed. Gurira, who stars on AMC's The Walking Dead, is also the author of the plays In the Continuum and The Convert.
The creative team includes Clint Ramos (scenic and costume design), Jen Schriever (lighting design), Broken Chord (original music and sound design), and Beth McGuire (vocal and dialect coaching).
