Nyong’o will star in Danai Gurira’s ”Eclipsed”.
Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) will make her New York stage debut in Danai Gurira's Eclipsed, a production of the Public Theater directed by Liesl Tommy. It begins previews September 29 and opens on October 14, with a closing date set for November 8.
In Eclipsed, Nyong'o will play a character called The Girl. The drama is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of the captive wives of a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed.
Nyong'o's screen credits include the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as The Queen of Katwe. She starred in The Winter's Tale, Uncle Vanya, and The Taming of the Shrew onstage. Actress and playwright Gurira stars as Michonne on The Walking Dead. Her plays also include In the Continuum and The Convert.
