”Wicked” veteran Teal Wicks is among the company.
East Haddam, Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals has announced casting for The Circus in Winter, a new musical featuring a folk/rock score by Ben Clark, a book by Beth Turcotte and Tony nominee Hunter Foster (The Bridges of Madison County), and direction by Joe Calarco.
Inspired by Cathy Day's acclaimed novel of the same name, the production tells a series of interwoven stories that reveal the private lives of a death-defying acrobat, a sideshow African queen, a lonely circus owner, a band of disheveled clowns, and more.
The cast will feature Aaron Ramey (The Bridges of Madison County) as Wallace Porter, Emily Behny (Goodspeed's Something's Afoot) as Irene, Teal Wicks (Wicked) as Jennie Dixiana, James Penca as Ollie, Shannan Antalan (Caroline, Or Change) as Pearly, Williams Parry (Gypsy) as Colonel and Hollenbach, Charles Gray (The Color Purple) as Gus, Jim Hogan as Gordon, Victoria Huston-Elem (Goodspeed’s Meet John Doe) as Elizabeth, Sarah Dacey Charles (Les Misérables) as Mrs. Colonel, Noah Plomgren as Elephant Jack, Daniel Quadrino (Newsies) as Young Wallace, Kristen Hoagland as Young Jennie, Scott Richard Foster as James Porter, and Avery Baran as Young Gordon.
The production will also feature choreography by Emmy nominee Spencer Liff, who recently choreographed the Tony-winning revival production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The creative team additionally includes set design by Jason Sherwood, costume design by Marina Draghici, lighting design by Donald Holder, sound design by Jay Hilton, and music direction and orchestrations by Matt Hinkley.
Performances will run at the Norma Terris Theatre from October 23-November 16.
