Elf, a new classic family musical, begins performances at Marriott Theatre this evening.

The musical tells the story of Buddy, a human baby who accidentally crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and gets transported to the North Pole. Once there, the orphaned Buddy gets taken in by an elf and raised as one of Santa’s helpers. When his adopted father finally explains why he is so different Buddy decides to go to New York and reunite with his long lost family. Along his way, his indomitable cheer transforms the lives of all around, even his perpetually cranky, workaholic biological father.

The musical, based on the 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell, features a score by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

Marc Robin directs and choreographs the production, with musical direction by Ryan T. Nelson. Alex Goodrich heads up the cast as Buddy, alongside Dara Cameron as Jovie, Kevin Gudahl as Walter Hobbs, Susie McMonagle as Emily Hobbs, Roger Mueller as Santa, Susan Moniz as Deb, and Cam Ezell as Michael Hobbs.

The creative team includes Tom Ryan (scenic design), Nancy Missimi (costume design), Jesse Klug (lighting design), Bob Gilmartin (sound design), Sally Weiss (properties design), and Patti Garwood (musical supervision and orchestra).

Performances will run through December 31.
