Broadway veterans made a prominent mark on last night's annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Broadway-themed Birdman won the prize for Best Cast in a Movie. Eddie Redmayne, who won a 2010 Tony Award for his performance in John Logan's play Red, won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in a Film for The Theory of Everything. Uzo Aduba (Godspell) won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Orange Is the New Black. William H. Macy (Speed-the-Plow) took home the prize for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for the series Shameless.
Mark Ruffalo (Awake and Sing!) won the award for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for the adaptation of Larry Kramer's play The Normal Heart. Frances McDormand, a 2011 Tony Award winner for Good People, took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries for Olive Kitteridge.
Other theater-related wins included Tony winner Kevin Spacey (Lost in Yonkers), Best Actor in a Drama Series for House of Cards, and two-time Tony winner Viola Davis (Fences), Best Actress in a Drama Series for How to Get Away With Murder. Julianne Moore (The Vertical Hour) won the SAG Award for Best Actress in a Film for Still Alice.
Carrie Fisher, a 2010 Drama Desk nominee for her solo show Wishful Drinking, presented her mother, Tony nominee Debbie Reynolds (Irene), with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
