Kutsukake Tokijiro to Play The Flea in November

The Flea Theater and Kurotama Kikaku will present Jun Kim’s adaptation of Shin Hasegawa’s Kutsukake Tokijiro, to run November 10-27 at the Flea. Jun Kim, who conceived the project, will direct the production.

Hasegawa’s play is a traditional Japanese gangster story that explores the themes of love, obligation and self-sacrifice, centering on what happens after the title character slays rival gangster Sanzo. Kim’s interdisciplinary vision for the piece will combine theater, music, dance, and visual arts.

The creative team will also include composer Ryo Yoshimata, choreographer Kayoko Sakoh, and video designer Yoann Trellu.

Kim’s directorial credits include Fan Macbeth, Heavenly Bento, Hold the Clock, Natsu Matsuri, and Sake with the Haiku Geisha, among others. In addition, he is an original member of the Bat Theater Company at The Flea.
