Jurnee Smollett to Replace Kerry Washington in The Whoopi Monologues

Jurnee Smollett will join the cast of The Whoopi Monologues, a reimagining of Whoopi Goldberg’s 1984 self-titled Broadway play at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, beginning Tuesday, August 4.

Smollett will take over for Kerry Washington, who plays her final performance in the Lincoln Center Theater production on August 2.

Written by Whoopi Goldberg and directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Whitney White, The Whoopi Monologues also stars Dominique Fishback, Kecia Lewis, Danielle Pinnock, Kara Young, Kai Heath, Denise Manning, and Pavar Snipe.

The creative team includes set designers Adam Rigg and Anton Volovsek of Studio Bent, costume designer Qween Jean, lighting designer Cha See, sound designer Fan Zhang, video designer Hana S. Kim, and hair and wig designer Nikiya Mathis.

Young will play Fontaine, Washington is Surfer Girl, Pinnock is Jamaican Lady, Lewis will be Lurleen, and Fishback takes on the role of Blonde Girl.
