Joseph Adler, David Arisco, Brad Oscar, et al. Among Carbonell Award Winners

The 34th annual Carbonell Awards were bestowed in a ceremony on Monday evening at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in a benefit performance which raises scholarships for South Florida arts students.

The Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre’s production of Les Miserables received six awards, including one for Best Production of a Musical. Among the other Carbonells bestowed on the show were one for David Arisco (Best Director/Musical) and awards for performers Gary Marachek, Gwen Hollander, Eric Alsford, as well as one for scenic designer Sean McClelland.

Among the other winners in musical categories were Brad Oscar for his performance in Barnum at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and Holly Shunkey for her work in Vices: A Love Story for the Caldwell Theatre Company.

In the play categories, GableStage’s Speed-the-Plow received awards for Best Production/Play as well as ones for director Joseph Adler and performer Paul Tei. The company also received awards for Best Ensemble and Best Supporting Actor/Play for its production of Farragut North. In addition, the company received The Bill Von Maurer Award for Theatrical Excellence.

Among the other Carbonell Award winners are Barbara Bradshaw, Elena Maria Garcia, John Manzelli, and Brian O’Keefe.
