The piece features a book by David Thompson.
The Beast in the Jungle, a new dance musical reuniting Chicago, Steel Pier, and The Scottsboro Boys collaborators John Kander, Susan Stroman, and David Thompson, will have its premiere as part of Vineyard Theatre's 2017-18 season off-Broadway. The news was first reported by Deadline.
Based on the novella by Henry James, the work tells the story of John Marcher, a man who spends his life in a state of unrequited love for a woman with whom he had a great but unfulfilled affair. Thompson pens the script, while Kander provides musical underscoring. Stroman will direct and choreograph the piece, which tells a story through dialogue and dance.
Full casting and additional information will be announced in the coming months.
