John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier are among the luminaries featured on DVDs to be released April 27.
Gielgud hosts Six Centuries of Verse, which will be released as a three volume DVD along with 20 page viewers’ guide. Verse traces the evolution of English-language poetry from Beowulf to modern times, and features well known works by Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Whitman, and Yeats, as well as less-familiar pieces. The selections on the discs are performed by Peggy Ashcroft, Lee Remick, Ralph Richardson, Ian Richardson, Julian Glover, Stacy Keach and Anthony Hopkins, among others.
Olivier co-stars with Alan Bates in A Voyage Round My Father, which focuses on the relationship between a blind barrister so stubborn that he refuses to acknowledge his sightlessness and his his devoted son. The piece, written by John Mortimer, received an International Emmy for best drama, as well as seven BAFTA Award nominations.
