Joel Grey, BD Wong, Finn Wittrock, and More Join the Cast of HBO’s The Normal Heart Film

The ensemble will also include Stephen Spinella, Denis O’Hare, and other previously announced stars.

HBO has announced that Broadway veterans Joel Grey (Broadway’s The Normal Heart), BD Wong (Pacific Overtures), Finn Wittrock (Death of a Salesman), Stephen Spinella (Spring Awakening), and Denis O’Hare (Take Me Out) have joined previously announced stars of the film adaptation of playwright Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart.

Additional cast includes Academy Award winner Julia Roberts (Eat Pray Love), Mark Ruffalo (Awake and Sing!), Alfred Molina (Red), Joe Mantello (Broadway’s The Normal Heart), Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening), Corey Stoll (A View From the Bridge), Matt Bomer (White Collar), Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory).

The film adaptation of The Normal Heart, which has been written by Kramer and will be directed by Emmy Award winner Ryan Murphy (Eat Pray Love, Glee), is scheduled to begin production in New York City during the summer of 2014. It focuses on a group of gay activists and their allies in the medical community at beginnings of the AIDS crisis in 1980s New York City.
