Drama Desk nominee Jerry Dixon will direct the Village Theatre’s production of Show Boat, which will perform at the Francis J. Gaudette Theatre in Issaquah May 13-July 3, and the Everett Performing Arts Center in Everett, July 10-August 2.
Based on the novel of the same name by Edna Ferber, this classic musical features music by Jerome Kern, with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It spans five decades in the lives of Cap’n Andy Hawks and his troupe of entertainers, a vivid chronicle of changing lives in changing times, and is one of the groundbreaking musicals of the last century.
The production will feature a cast of 28 actors and a 17 piece orchestra. The creative team will include Stanley Perryman (choreography), Bob Dahlstrom (scenic design), Gregory Bloxham (lighting design), and Karen Ledger (costume design).
Dixon is best known as an actor. He received a Drama Desk nomination for his performance in tick, tick…BOOM!, and appeared on Broadway in Once on This Island and Five Guys Named Moe. He contributed music and lyrics to An Evening With Mario Cantone and Laugh Whore, and also assistant directed the latter.
