Jason Robert Brown's Songs for a New World Celebrates Opening Night

Encores! Off-Center kicked off its 2018 summer season with Jason Robert Brown's Songs for a New World under the direction of Kate Whoriskey, with music direction by Tom Murray and choreography by Rennie Harris. Performances began June 27 and continue through June 30.

Featured in the cast are Shoshana Bean, Colin Donnell, Mykal Kilgore, and Solea Pfeiffer. The production also features an ensemble of dancers, made up of Phil S. Cuttino Jr., Virgil Gadson, Mai Lê Hô, Samantha Shepherd, and Danzel Thompson-Stout.

Originally conceived and directed by Daisy Prince, Songs for a New World was the first produced work of three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas). This powerful collection of songs examines life, love, and the choices ordinary people make when faced with extraordinary moments. From the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to the ledge of a Fifth Avenue high-rise, these characters face new worlds that follow the unique challenges they encounter.
