Pipeline Theatre Company is set to present the New York premiere of Beardo, a new musical featuring book and lyrics by Jason Craig (Beowulf – A Thousand Years of Baggage) and music by Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812). Directed by Ellie Heyman the production will run at St. John's Lutheran Church from February 3-February 26, with an opening night on February 12.

Beardo, described as "a Russian indie rock musical", explores the inner workings of Rasputin, the infamous mystic who sexed his way to the fall of the Russian monarchy. Pipeline Theatre Company is collaborating with Craig and Malloy on a revised version of Beardo, which will include a brand-new character and additional music.

Beardo will star Kenyon Phillips (The Life And Death of Kenyon Phillips) as Beardo, alongside Alex Highsmith as Tsarista, Liz Leimkuhler as Shack Sister, Brian Bock as Yusapoof, Willy Appleman as Tsar, Rolls Andre as Shack Man, Shaye Troha as Shack Woman, and Ben Langhorst as Person of the Court.

The production will have music direction by Ian Axness, set design by Carolyn Mraz, costume design by Katja Andreiev, lighting design by Mary Ellen Stebbins, sound design by Dan Moses Schreier and Joshua Reid, props design by Jess Adams, and choreography by the Kuperman Brothers.

The band for Beardo features conductor Sam Kulik (guitar), Blake Allen (viola), Ezra Gale (bass), Sarah Haines (violin), Serena Miller (cello), and Hajnal Pivnick (violin).

Beardo received its world premiere with the Shotgun Players at the Ashby Stage in March 2011.
