Masterworks Broadway has announced its summer lineup of digital releases of original cast recordings, as well as other studio cast albums, which will be made available as both discs-on-demand and downloads.
On July 19, the company will dually release Gian Carlo Menotti’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Saint of Bleecker Street, one of only two operas ever to win the “Best Musical” citation of the New York Drama Critics Circle. The show, set in New York’s Little Italy, centers on a young girl who suffers the stigmata and hears voices, and her brother – an atheist who seeks a more conventional answer to her problems. The recording features Gabriele Ruggiero and David Poleri.
In addition, the off-Broadway cast recording of Robert Colby and Nita Jones’ Half-Past Wednesday, a 1962 take on the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, will be released for download and as disc-on-demand on August 23; and on September 20, a live recording of Divine Hair/Mass in F, a 1971 celebration performed by cast members from the then-Broadway cast of Hair, will become available.
In addition to these releases, Masterworks Broadway will also make ten recordings available for download in the coming months. August 9 will see the release of the original Broadway cast recording of Say, Darling, along with the original off-Broadway cast recordings of The Mad Show, Ernest in Love, Now Is the Time for All Good Men, and The Nervous Set, and the studio concept album of archy and mehitabel: a back-alley opera, which was later retitled Shinbone Alley for Broadway.
On September 20, the recordings that will become available for download are the original off-Broadway cast recording of By Jupiter and the original cast recording of Paris ’90, along with the albums Noël Coward at Las Vegas and Noël Coward in New York.
