The Broadway run of Gutenberg! The Musical! wrapped up at the James Earl Jones Theatre on Sunday, January 28, following 117 regular performances and 29 previews. It broke the box office record at the James Earl Jones Theatre in its final week, grossing $1,463,226. This bests the previous record, also set by Gutenberg! in the final week of 2023, when the musical pulled in $1,280,597.

The 20-week run of Gutenberg! The Musical! has recouped its initial investment of $6.75 million.

The show’s co-stars, Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, are in the studio today for the original cast recording, which will be released by Center Stage Records and Yellow Sound Label this spring. You can pre-order it here.

Gutenberg! The Musical! is the story of two friends (played by Rannells and Gad) creating a musical about Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press. Performances started at the James Earl Jones Theatre on September 15, with an official opening on October 12, 2023.

The show is written by Beetlejuice writers Scott Brown and Anthony King, and was presented off-Broadway in 2006. Alex Timbers directed on Broadway, as he did for the earlier off-Broadway run.
