Full Cast Announced for Monsoon Wedding, the Musical

Twenty-two actors from India and the global Indian diaspora will appear in the New York debut of Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding, the Musical, which is set to begin preview performances at St. Ann’s Warehouse on May 6 ahead of an official opening night on May 22. Performances are scheduled through June 6.

Based on the 2001 film Nair made with screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan, Monsoon Wedding, the Musical is about two families coming together to lavishly celebrate an arranged marriage, and the discovery of a dark secret that threatens to upend everything. The musical features music by Vishal Bhardwaj, a book by Arpita Mukherjee and Sabrina Dhawan, and lyrics by Masi Asare and Susan Birkenhead. Nair directs.

Nair directs the production, which features scenic design by Jason Ardizzone-West, lighting design by Bradley King, projection design by David Bengali, and costume design Arjun Bhasin, who also designed the film. Sound design is by David Schnirman.

The orchestrations are by Jamshied Sharifi, with additional orchestrations and arrangements by Rona Siddiqui. Monsoon Wedding is produced by Sunny Jain and led by music director Emily Whitaker, who conducts and plays keyboards. Choreography is by Shampa Gopikrishna, movement direction is by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. Arpita Mukherjee is the associate director.
