Flashback Friday: Tony Vincent Made Jesus Christ Superstar His Own Rocktopia

Prime yourself for NBC’s live production with Vincent’s face-melting version of Judas’s big number.

Tony Vincent has been Broadway's go-to rocker since the turn of the Millennium. He's played Mark Cohen in Rent, was the original St. Jimmy in Green Day's American Idiot, took the musical stylings of Queen on the road in We Will Rock You, and now sings a collection of classic rock anthems at the Broadway Theatre in Rocktopia, which opened on Tuesday night.

As Easter Sunday approaches, we thought it only fitting to flash back to Vincent's epic performance as Judas in Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, which is getting its own star-studded live telecast on NBC this Sunday night. Vincent played Judas in the 2000 Broadway revival, and in 2001, took his rendition of "Superstar" to Beijing for a concert of Webber's greatest hits. Brandon Victor Dixon will undoubtedly belt the heck out of the number as NBC's Judas, but watch this video and try not to become a Vincent disciple.
