Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park With George makes its official return to Broadway tomorrow at the newly reopened Hudson Theatre. For 10 weeks, Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford reprise their City Center Encores! performances as French painter Georges Seurat and his model/lover Dot — roles famously originated by Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters in 1984.

Usually, legendary stage performances like Patinkin's and Peters' are lost to time, but lucky for us, the entire original cast was set to film and nestled into the theatrical archives for future generations to enjoy. So before you check out the new cast at the Hudson, take a look back at the musical's first starring pair in the show's title opener.
