Hudson Stage Company will offer a free staged reading of Chiori Miyagawa’s Dividing Ashes, at the Croton Free Library on June 4 at 7pm. Erica Gould will direct the performance, which will be followed by a Q&A with the artists.

In the play, a thirty-something woman begins contemplating where her own ashes should be scattered after she’s fallen through a manhole and survived without a scratch. As she considers this question, people alive and imaginary visit her, helping her realize the value of her life, everyone’s life and everyone’s death. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Miyagawa has been a New Dramatists’ resident playwright since 2006. Her plays have been produced at such venues as the Vineyard Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, the Women’s Project, P.S. 122, HERE Arts Center, and the Ohio Theatre, and regionally. An anthology of her plays, Thousand Years Waiting And Other Plays is forthcoming from Seagull Books.
