Elaine May, Michael Cera, Lucas Hedges Take Opening-Night Bows in The Waverly Gallery

The Broadway premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's The Waverly Gallery, directed by Lila Neugebauer, celebrated its opening night at the Golden Theatre on October 25.

The company is made up of Elaine May, Lucas Hedges, Joan Allen, Michael Cera, and David Cromer, with a creative team that includes David Zinn (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), and Brian MacDevitt (lighting design).

The Waverly Gallery follows a generous, chatty, and feisty grandmother's battle against Alzheimer's disease. Gladys is an old-school lefty, a social activist, and a longtime owner of a small art gallery in Greenwich Village. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the subsequent effect of her decline on her family, especially her grandson.

The Waverly Gallery was first produced by Second Stage Theatre in 2000.
