Denée Benton, Patina Miller, Jasmine Amy Rogers to Star in Broadway's School Girls Revival

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced full casting for its Broadway premiere of Jocelyn Bioh’s School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Performances begin September 8.

The story of an American girl who transfers to a boarding school in Ghana, School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play was an off-Broadway hit when it debuted with MCC in 2017, with TheaterMania’s review declaring it, “one of the funniest shows of the season.” It returned the following year for an extended encore run.

This new production for MTC will be helmed by Whitney White, who directed Bioh’s Jaja’s African Hair Braiding at the Friedman in 2023.

Starring are Lucia Aremu as Ama, Tony Award nominee Denée Benton as Paulina, Tony Award winner Patina Miller as Eloise Amponsah, Erin Morton as Nana, Nia Otchere-Sarfo as Gifty, Jordan Rice as Mercy, Tony Award nominee Jasmine Amy Rogers as Ericka, and Obie Award winner Heather Alicia Simms as Headmistress Francis.

On the creative team are Teresa L. Williams (Scenic Design), Qween Jean (Costume Design), Stacey Derosier (Lighting Design), Cody Spencer (Sound Design), and Nikiya Mathis (Wig, Hair and Makeup Design).
